Episode 57 of Public Health Careers
Bria Jarrell, MPH is a recent graduate from Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University.
Bria got her Bachelors of Arts in Psychology as well as her Bachelors in Classical Civilization at Emory University. Due to a crisis and the need for teachers in Louisiana, Bria began teaching. She was a Teacher at East Baton Rouge Parish School System.
While she was a teacher, Bria also was the Assistant Director at Oak Tree Camps. She expresses how interacting with the children and seeing their challenges made her want to get more involved in population health interventions and sparked her interest in public health.
Bria decided to pursue her Master of Public Health at Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University. Her concentration was in Behavioral, Social & Health Education Sciences. During her time she was a very active student with many roles.
Her first role was as a Public Health Intern at CDC in the Department of Global Health Protection. She was then a Emory Housing Graduate Assistant, however this was short lived because of the pandemic. She worked on a podcast for Center for Women Graduate Assistant as well as assisted on Black Women in the Wilderness. Bria then had an idea to start an initiative to support students better and from this she was the Team lead and Founder for Covid-19 Student Task Force (CROWN). She was also a Graduate Teaching Assistant and enjoyed this especially as being one of the only second year MPH students getting to interact with the first year MPH students. Bria is currently co-writing a paper around her work with ‘Black Women in the Wilderness’ and hopes to get this published in the near future.
Bria started her Instagram account @TinyDropsofHealth. She started this to better share what she was learning during her MPH journey as well as share complex health topics with the world. She enjoys this as a way to inform others, debunk health myths, and refine her health communication skills.
