Mickal Lewis, MPH, CHW is a Regional Community Engagement Specialist VII at Texas Department of State Health Services. She’s a multifaceted population health professional with 8+ years of experience in maternal & child health, public and community health, and emergency management.

Mickal got her Bachelors in Public Health at Sam Houston State University. While in her bachelors degree, she worked as a Food Service Specialist at Army National Guard, a Sigma Sigma Sigma National Sorority, and Arc leader to Risk Management Coordinator to Rho Gamma, and an Intern at United Way of the Brazos Valley.

She then got her Master of Public Health at the American Public University System. During her time, she was a 2-1-1 Information and Referral Specialist at United Way of Brazos Valley before a promotion to the Resource and Project Coordinator role.

After graduating, Mickal worked as a Population Health Coordinator at BVCAA dba HealthPoint. She then transitioned to a Community Engagement Navigator at The Rose. Mickal then worked in one role split between two nonprofits in roles of Senior Program Manager (contract) at Partnership for Southern Equity + Senior Program Manager (contract) at The BLK+Cross.

She then had two quick transitions in the roles of Public Affairs Manager at Harris County Toll Road Authority and Director of Community Health & Safety East Harris County Empowerment Council.

Mickal now works as Regional Community Engagement Specialist VII at Texas Department of State Health Service and works as an Independent Consultant.
