Gabriela Calvi, BSPH is a bilingual infectious disease investigator, public health educator, health advocate, and a podcaster at Buenos Dias Salud.
Gabriela is always up from a challenge, both physically and mentally. She has done a triathlon as well as half marathons. She was born and raised in Venezuela and came to the USA when she just graduated from high school not even knowing English. She speaks about this transition in her journey to the USA. Gabriela also has a unique journey into schooling in the US, where she started her collegiate years when she was in her 40s.
She decided to do this to take time to raise her children and focus on being a mom. It was during this time that she would do community volunteer work and some other educational certificates. Her journey into public health started at the end of her last pregnancy when she dealt with postpartum depression and other challenges. From this she wanted to be a community advocate.
While Gabriela kids were in school, she worked as a bilingual mentor at the Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services as well as helped her children’s school as she was on the School Fundraising Committee.
She started her schooling with an Associates Degree in General Studies at Brigham Young University. And continued on to complete her Bachelor’s in Public Health with emphasis in health education and promotion at Brigham Young University. After graduating, she was first a Health Educator Facilitator Intern at Hope’s Door New Beginning Center. Then she went on to do an internship as a Public Health Educator Intern at Denton County Public Health.
Gabriela got her first job as a Program Surveillance Specialist for Perinatal Hepatitis B Prevention Program at Dallas County Health and Human Services. She also holds the role as a Covid-19 School Health Educator also at the Dallas County Health and Human Services.
Additionally, Gabriela works as a Freelance Columnist at Conexión Florida. She is also the Policy & Advocacy Committee Chair at Texas Public Health Association.

Gabriela started and is the host of the podcast Buenos Dias Salud where she focuses on educating the Latino community by helping them understand complex health issues in simpler language. The priority is to give the Latino community basic tools so that they learn to exercise their own authority in defending their personal health.
Gabriela will be pursuing her graduate degree in the Fall of 2021 after deferring it in 2020, she will be studying her Master of Public Health at Baylor University.
