36: Biologist Turned Public Health Expert Working in Health Systems with Michael J. Cleveland, MPH

Episode 36 of Public Health Careers

Today we have a biologist turned public health expert with a strong command of health care administration, policy, strategy, and operations. Michael J. Cleveland, MPH is currently an Administrative Fellow at Salem Health where he works as the Service Line Business Supervisor. 

He got his Bachelors of Science in General Biology at Tougaloo College. Michael applied and was accepted to be a Jackson Heart Study Scholar which he says is the beginning to his public health and leadership journeys. He then went to be a Southeast Regional Director and then the Western Regional Director for the United Negro College Fund National (UNCF) Alumni Council. He was also a part of Project Imhotep through Morehouse and CDC.

Michael then went on to get his Master of Public Health at Morehouse School of Medicine. He talks about the importance of HBCU’s to him and the importance of having these institutions. He done his practicum as a Graduate Administrative Consultant for Morehouse Choice ACO-ES. He also worked as a Correspondent Specialist for General Dynamics Information Technology. Additionally, he was a Teaching Assistant as well as a Graduate Research Assistant for Public Health Sciences Institute at Morehouse College.

Michael was selected as a Top 10 Under 40 for Young Alumni for Morehouse College – big congrats!

Michael then went onto become an Administrative Fellow at Salem Health where he currently works. He serves in the role of Service Line Business Supervisor.
