Interview with Alyssa Benalfew-Ramos, MPH

Episode 102 of The Public Health Millennial Career Stories Podcast:

Alyssa Benalfew-Ramos,MPH the Associate Director at the Boston Public Health Commission, Racial Equity & Community Engagement, Execuitve Office. She is a motivated public health practitioner with a background in health policy and health equity. She is committed to amplifying trauma-informed approaches via working alongside communities and diverse stakeholders to aid positive health outcomes through addressing the social determinants of health and promoting equitable anti-violence strategies.

She got her bachelor’s degree in Political Philosophy and Public Policy at University of Massachusetts Boston. During her time here, she became an Orientation Leader at Office for New Students Programs at University of Massachusetts Boston. She then shifted into an Assistant Coordinator position at the same organization.

During undergraduate, Alyssa was also an INSPIRE Facilitator at the Office for Student Leadership and Community Engagement, a Research Assistant at Women and Gender Studies Department, a Peer Mentor for CLA First and CLA First! Program Senior Mentor, and lastly an Education and Exhibits Intern at Edward M Kennedy Institute for United State Senate. Alyssa was then an Intern/Fellow at Health Career Connection.

Alyssa then went on to get her Master of Public Health at Boston University School of Public Health. While she was doing her MPH, she was an Intern/Fellow at Boston Public Health Commission. Then she was a Graduate Assistant at Sexual Assault Response and Prevention Center, Boston University and Patient Advocacy Intern at The Dimock Center.

After graduating, Alyssa began as a Training Coordinator at Boston Public Health Commission then she was promoted into a Program Manager for the Boston Youth Resiliency & Recovery Collaborative, Capacity Building and Training. She was then further promoted to Senior Program Manager and lastly promoted into her current role as Associate Director at Boston Public Health Commission.

Alyssa also works as Freelance Independent Consultant.
