High School

Young Scholars Program at University of Georgia – The Young Scholars Program (YSP) is a paid six-week summer internship program for high school students interested in agricultural, food, and environmental sciences. Selected students work 30 hours per week actively engaged in research under the guidance of a faculty mentor on the UGA Athens, Griffin or Tifton campus. During the program, students attend workshops and visit agricultural operations to gain exposure to the various fields of study and careers in agriculture.

Undergraduate Specific

Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship – The Gilman Program works with universities and colleges across the U.S. to encourage and support applicants from public, private, two-year and four-year institutions. The following data reflects the past academic year of institutions with Gilman Scholars.

CDC Undergraduate Public Health Scholars (CUPS) Program – CDC’s Office of Minority Health and Health Equity (OMHHE) supports internship opportunities for eligible undergraduate and graduate students to gain meaningful experiences in public health settings.

Project IMHOTEP with Morehouse College and CDC – Project IMHOTEP is an 11-week public health internship for undergraduate juniors, seniors, and recent graduates. The program aims to increase diversity in the public health field by engaging underrepresented minority students.

Ronald E. McNair Scholar Program – The McNair Scholars Program is a federal TRIO program funded at 151 institutions across the United States and Puerto Rico by the U.S. Department of Education. It is designed to prepare undergraduate students for doctoral studies through involvement in research and other scholarly activities. McNair participants are either first-generation college students with financial need, or members of a group that is traditionally underrepresented in graduate education and have demonstrated strong academic potential. The goal of the McNair Scholars Program is to increase graduate degree awards for students from underrepresented segments of society.

Full Bright Scholar Program – Today, Fulbright is the most widely recognized and prestigious international exchange program in the world, supported for more than half a century by the American people through an annual appropriation from the U.S. Congress and by the people of partner nations.

Undergraduate or Masters

ORISE Fellowships – ORISE connects the most talented and diverse college students, recent graduates, postdocs, and faculty to programs closely aligned with the interests of a variety of research facilities, including those managed for the U.S. Department of Energy and more than a dozen other federal agencies. These internship and fellowship programs are key to the recruitment and preparation of the next generation of our nation’s scientific workforce.

PHI/CDC Global Health Fellowship – The PHI/CDC Global Health Fellowship Program is a U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention-funded program that offers recent global public health graduates from Council on Education in Public Health accredited schools and programs the exciting opportunity to participate in fellowships with guidance from leading global health experts from the CDC. Fellowships are yearlong placements within CDC offices working across six technical tracks.

CDC Public Health Associate Program (PHAP) – The Public Health Associate Program (PHAP) is a competitive, two-year, paid training program with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. PHAP associates are assigned to public health agencies and nongovernmental organizations in the United States and US territories, and work alongside other professionals across a variety of public health settings.

National Institutes of Health Summer Internship Program (SIP) – Summer programs at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) provide an opportunity to spend a summer working at the NIH side-by-side with some of the leading scientists in the world, in an environment devoted exclusively to biomedical research (At the NIH “biomedical research” includes everything from behavioral and social sciences, through biology and chemistry, to physics, mathematical modeling, computational biology, and biostatistics).

The Washington Center – The Washington Center provides immersive internships and academic seminars to students from hundreds of colleges and universities and young professionals from across the U.S. and more than twenty-five countries. We help students who otherwise may not have the opportunity to pursue their interests, experience what a successful career looks like, and establish a path toward their professional future. Along the way, we inspire them to become well-informed, public-spirited, and more socially engaged in their communities.

School Specific

Teex at Texas A&M – Teex is a program focused on fire and emergency services at Texas A&M University. It comes down to saving lives. From providing emergency responders to disasters across the state and nation to developing training and practical workforce solutions, TEEX makes a difference worldwide. More than 200,000 people representing every U.S. state and territory and 105 countries are served annually through on-site and online resources for specialties from homeland security to economic development and workforce training.

Frances L. Philips Travel Scholarship at University of North Carolina – The Frances L. Phillips Travel Scholarship provides an opportunity for Juniors and Seniors in the College of Arts and Sciences at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill who attended high school in North Carolina to engage in individual self-designed and directed international travel experiences for periods ranging from two months to six months. Approximately 20 Phillips Scholarships for up to $9,500 each are awarded every year on the basis of a competitive written application and committee interview.

Second Century Initiative Fellowship at Georgia State School of Public Health – The Next Generation Program is an effort through strategic faculty hiring to build strength around core and innovative research and scholarship by adding faculty excellence to interdisciplinary research topics, investigating pressing issues facing our society and the world.

Doctoral

Southern Education Board Fellowship – Doctoral Scholars Program – More than one-third of America’s college students are people of color. But racial and ethnic minorities make up only small fractions of college faculty. Nationwide, about 5 percent of faculty are African-American, about 3 percent are Hispanic and about 1 percent are Native American. The SREB-State Doctoral Scholars Program is working to change that.

McKnight Dissertation Fellowship at Florida State University – The McKnight Doctoral Fellowship provides up to five years of funding support for newly enrolled African American and Hispanic graduate students who intend to seek a Ph.D. degree. When funding is available, the FEF also offers the McKnight Dissertation Fellowship, which provides up to one year of stipend support to graduate students working to complete dissertations.
