Episode 23 of Public Health Careers
In this episode, I get to chat with Amanda Howell, MS, MPH. You may know Amanda from her Instagram platform, @amandahowellhealth, where she is most likely discussing the intersection of nutrition, reproductive health & policy.
Amanda completed her Bachelors degree in pre-professional studies with a focus on political science and psychology at Michigan State University in 2010.
After a post-graduation move from Michigan to Colorado for law school, she did a bit of a career 180 and ended up in the health field. She has worked in various positions for organizations like Planned Parenthood, specialized Women’s Health Centers, and local hospitals.
She then went on to complete her Masters of Science in Public Health at Creighton University School of Medicine in 2017. She has certifications in wilderness first response, Personal Training, nutrition, and as a health coach. She started her consulting business, Howell Health Consulting, to provide health education & communication in areas of reproductive health, health policy, and nutrition.
In this episode, Amanda and I talk about the now and future of health communication is through social media platforms such as Instagram or Tik Tok. She talks vehemently about how we have to bring health information to where the younger generations are and gives two great examples of the Denver Public Health Department Instagram Page and the Johns Hopkins Public Health Instagram.
