1) How To Search For Jobs During Covid-19

How To Search For Jobs During Covid-19

I can completely understand why this was the top blog post on my website in 2020. With Covid-19 coming out of nowhere and the public health job landscape changing as a result, I can see why this was the most popular.

Job Searching hasn’t changed a whole lot except that you are going to have to be a lot more proactive during this time. But this shouldn’t be a far cry from what your normal job searching process looks like.

Use the tips in the post to strengthen how you go about searching for jobs during and even after Covid-19.

2) The Dilemma of Contact Tracer Jobs For Public Health Professionals

The Dilemma of Contact Tracer Jobs For Public Health Professionals

As Covid-19 raged on in the early days, it was hard to search for any public health jobs without coming across Contact Tracer roles. Contact Tracer roles are vitally important to the stop of spread of disease (Covid-19 and others). However, they don’t truly offer a huge value add especially to newly graduated Master of Public Health students.

Additionally, contact tracing was done dramatically different in different states (even counties) and the US didn’t have any powers other than to ‘recommend’ that people take the recommendations of contact Tracers.

The dilemma came as this was the only opportunity out there for many public health people to apply to yet it wasn’t a role that was going to be something that you can grow into nor really utilize many skillsets learnt.

This is a great read if you are starting to think about applying for public health jobs.

5) 5 Transferable Skills For Public Health Students Part 2

5 Transferable Skills For Public Health Students Part 2

Theses next 5 skills were:

  • Qualitative Skills
  • Presentation Skills
  • Grant Research and Writing
  • Critical Thinking
  • Project Management

Always think about what you can do to set yourself apart from the other students around you. Everyone goes to school, takes classes, but what else can you do that will set you apart. When thinking about this, think about ways that you can demonstrate that you have developed these transferable skills.

4 Things I Wish I Did During Graduate School (MPH)

Your graduate school program is going to end a lot quicker than you expect. So you should definitely try to make the most out of experiences and opportunities that come your way. Check out this article to see the 4 things I wish did during my Master of Public Health Program are:
