Miguel is Health Equity Urban and Regional Planner at Riverside University Health System.
He is an expert Urban Planner with 20+ years of experience and a culture of health builder. Words that best describe him are curious, creative, entrepreneurial and action oriented. He is intimately versed with land use, environmental planning, healthy communities, urban design and community engagement.
Miguel conferred a Bachelor of Arts in Urban Studies and Planning at California State University, Northridge. During and after his undergraduate studies, he worked as a Staff Analyst/Solid Waste Coordinator at the Western Riverside Council of Governments, followed by a role as an Associate Planner at Hogle-Ireland. He then founded Art VULUPS, serving as Principal Organizer and Project Curator, and worked as a Land Use Consultant at MAV Urban Planning. Subsequently, Miguel took on the role of Contract Community Planner for the US Marine Corps and became a Fellow at the California Leadership Academy for the Public’s Health. He has also held leadership positions such as Co-Chair of the Healthy Communities Committee at the California Planning Roundtable and Chair of the American Planning Association Diversity Committee, and Planning for health equity, advocacy, and leadership (PHEAL) Steering Committee Chair.
He is also a Bloomberg Fellow and current Master of Public Health student in Environmental Challenges at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. At Riverside University Health System, he first served as a Healthy Communities Planner and now holds the position of Health Equity Urban and Regional Planner.
