Episode 54 of Public Health Careers

Tanya Ambrose, BSPH is a UK born islander who grew up on the beautiful Caribbean Island of Antigua and migrated to the US over a decade ago to pursue her college education. Tanya has had quite the journey to finding herself to where she is today.

Tanya came to the US and got her Associates of Arts in Liberal Arts and Sciences at the Borough of Manhattan Community College which was a switch from her interest of business when she was in Antigua. After her associates she went on to become a Library Assistant at Roanoke County Public Library as well as a Patient Observation Assistant at Carilion Clinic.

Tanya went on to get a Certification as Phlebotomy Technician/Phlebotomist at Health Tech of Georgia. Then she was a Resident Assistant at John Wesley Villas Incorporated and then a Home Health Aide for Home Instead Senior Care.

She went on to complete her Bachelor’s of Science degree in Public Health at Georgia State University after her Aunty T was always in her ear about studying public health. During this she was a Clinician Technician at Navicent Health and also an Intern at Georgia Department of Public Health. One of the most important experiences for Tanya was her study abroad trip she took to Uganda which had inspired her to start her now running non-profit organization, Scrub Life Cares.

After Tanya graduated she was a Covid-19 Case Investigator at Community Organized Relief Effort and she now works as a Housing Processor at the Georgia Department of Community Affairs. Additionally, Tanya is now a Birth and Postpartum Doula & Placenta Encapsulation Specialist.

Tanya is also a blogger at All About The Scrub Life which was one of the factors leading to her starting her nonprofit, Scrub Life Cares, where they are dedicated to serving the youths in the underserved communities of Antigua and Atlanta, GA by promoting Health & Education

Lastly, she is a podcast Host at Tea With Tanya a podcast where she shares episodes around personal development, women’s health and promoting positive living.

Tanya will be deciding what she will want to pursue for her Masters level education in nursing and public health within the next year or so and we look forward to her continued journey in public health.
