Episode 48 of Public Health Careers

Dr. Bryan O. Buckley, DrPH, MPH, is a multi-dimensional healthcare professional, educator, and researcher in healthcare delivery system redesign, performance improvement, and change management. Dr. Bryan currently works as a Research Fellow at MedStar Institute for Quality and Safety as well as an Assistant Professor in Medicine at Georgetown University School of Medicine.

He got his Bachelors of Science in Microbiology and Molecular Genetics at Michigan State University. He started off in the pre-med track and then switched as he learnt more about public health related jobs. Bryan was a Charles Drew Science Scholar at Michigan State University.

After then got his Master of Public Health at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. He was an Infection Prevention & Epidemiology intern during his MPH. Bryan was able to work at a Graduate Fellow in two countries for the Ministry of Health of Antigua & Barbuda and the Ministry of Health of Liberia. He was also responsible for the beginning of Tobacco Free Michigan State University.

After graduating, Bryan stepped into his least favorite role as a Prevention Initiative Epidemiologist at Michigan DHSS. He then moved on to work as a Project Manger of Patient Safety Organization at Michigan Health & Hospital Association. Bryan was able to work as a Project Manager and then a Patient Safety & Quality Manager at the Keystone Center.

Bryan then went on to get his Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. He was in two fellowships there: the Prajna Leadership Fellowship and the Julio Frenk Fellowship which assisted with school tuition. During his DrPH, he was the President of the Harvard Graduate Council and worked as a Health Management Summer Consultant at Business Consulting Group with Blue Cross Blue Shield.

Currently, Bryan works as a Research Fellow at MedStar Institute for Quality and Safety as well as an Assistant Professor at Georgetown University School of Medicine.
